Australian firm to buy £300m gigaplant backer Britishvolt

An Australian firm has been revealed as preferred bidder for car battery firm Britishvolt which went into administration last month.

The new owner vows to complete the gigafactory in Northumberland.

I’ve been following this very closely, as it’ll be built only half a mile from me.

Good news but i bet our useless Tory MP and his Govt take credit for it when they wouldn't provide the funding needed initially

This is local to me as well (it's actually in my constituency, not Blyth Valley as its MP would like you to think). Good news, I hope it goes ahead and brings some much needed investment and higher paid jobs to the area.

The new owners will keep the Britishvolt brand name but have very different plans for the future.

The company intends to start by focusing on batteries for energy storage and hopes to have those products available by the end of 2025.
